You will have seen on our FB site and also on the front page that 0n 20/02/2025 a Memorandum of Understanding was signed with the "Community Union".
This enables us to work with "Community Union" to set up a Partnership with them, offering the benefits that they can bring to "Postmasters".
"Voice of the Postmaster" will continue as is but with the added option of you being able to gain extra if you wish by signing up with "Community Union"
Memorandum of Understanding
Between Community Union and Voice of the Postmaster
1) Parties
1.1 This Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) is made between the trade union Community (CU), registered with the Certification Officer with list number 784T whose registered office is 465c Caledonian Road, London, N7 9GX and the group, Voice of the Postmaster (VOTP)
1.2 Both parties recognise the benefits of collaboration and agree to work together on campaigns and issues of shared value.
2) Purpose and Scope
2.1 The purpose of this MOU is to clearly identify the role and responsibilities of each party in terms of collaboration.
2.2 Within the scope of this MOU, both parties recognise the fundamental right to be responsible for its management, organisation, and policy delivery in order to run its respective business.
2.3 To facilitate working relations between CU and VOTP, a defined road map will be developed that will allow and enable for the sharing of knowledge, provide mutual solutions, and identify core principles of mutual interest.
2.4 Our joint aim is to deliver mutual benefit to members of both constituent organisations, to enhance the effectiveness of our efforts by pooling resources, sharing expertise, and coordinating our activities on issues that impact our members and wider community.
3) Background
3.1 Both parties agree to the development of mutual benefits and trust throughout this relationship and partnership, with each party maintaining its independence
as an organisation.
3.2 CU and VOTP will continue to establish wider relationships with external organisations with shared ethos and values in the interests of their members.
4) Terms
4.1 CU and VOTP agree to collaborate in the following areas:
a) Provision to work on areas including resource sharing, policy and research support, and membership services.
b) Joint campaigns on issues affecting both organisations, including but not limited to mental health and wellbeing.
c) Shared training programs for union reps/activists and members, focusing on skills development, organising and campaigning.
d) Co-ordinated efforts to influence legislation and policy that benefits both our members.
e) Joint public awareness initiatives to highlight the challenges faced by our members and the importance of our work.
f) Such other matters as may be agreed
5) Management
5.1 All undertakings by either party will comply and be controlled respectively giving every regard to the provisions of Data Protection.
5.2 Both parties recognise the importance of proceeding with activity on the basis of benefit being gained by both parties.
5.3 Both parties enter into the process acknowledging the significance of maintaining strong, confident, positive relations and note how critical this approach will be in encouraging participation and support from both parties governing bodies and staff.
5.4 To this means, both parties will nominate two representatives who will come together to form the ‘Steering Group’.
5.5 The ‘Steering Group’ will be responsible for developing the road map, which will also set out the responsibilities and ensure implementation of and compliance with the arrangements tabled in the MOU.
5.6 The functions of the ‘Steering Group’ will include:
a) To establish arrangements for co-operation of both parties
b) To arrange meetings in accordance with the MOU or in respect of arrangements thereunder
c) To establish and manage temporary arrangements, for instance, working groups on particular issues if required
d) To prepare such reports as may be required for internal reporting
e) To settle any matters that may arise in accordance with this MOU, or in respect of arrangements made thereof
5.7 Both parties commit to report internally to their respective governing bodies.
6) Duration and Review
6.1 This MOU shall be in effect upon the signature of CU and VOTP authorised officials.
6.2 It shall be in force from the date of signing, for the period of one year, with a six-month review which shall be conducted by the signatories.
6.3 This MOU is intended to be binding in honour, but not legally binding.
7) Confidentiality
7.1 Both CU and VOTP agree to maintain the confidentiality of any sensitive information shared during the course of this collaboration, unless otherwise agreed upon in writing.
8) Signatories
8.1 This MOU is signed by the authorised representatives of both parties:
